DESCRIPTION
Handbook of Biodegradable Polymeric Materials and Their Applications provides a comprehensive review of the synthesis, characterization, processing, and applications of biodegradable polymers. This handbook is intended to serve a broad audience of scientists and engineers at multiple levels and covers aspects dealing with the chemistry, biology, and engineering of biodegradable polymers. The content of this handbook focuses on the areas of polymeric biomaterials, biomedical engineering, food science and nutrition, and green engineering. Examples of synthetic biodegradable chemistries discussed in this handbook include polycaprolactones, polyesters, phosphazenes, phosphoesters, and polyanhydrides. In addition, natural biodegradable materials such as starch, chitosan, and chitin are also discussed. The handbook also describes a wide range of applications of these degradable materials including drug delivery, single dose vaccines, protein stabilization, gene therapy, tissue engineering, orthopedics, and food packaging. The handbook has been divided into two thematic volumes.
